Parkinson's Programming

Free for everyone—even caregivers!


Lake Forest Health & Fitness Center offers a range of Parkinson's Programming to adults with Parkinson’s disease and their caregivers, including:

The medical fitness programs are designed for adults with Parkinson's disease who wish to participate in low- to moderate-intensity exercise. The support group welcomes both patients and caregivers.

All classes, except the Support Group, require a completed Health History Questionnaire prior to participation.

 

Dance for Parkinson’s

Dance for Parkinson's is a dance class for adults with Parkinson’s of all abilities. Members are empowered to explore movement and music in ways that are rejuvenating, fun and creative while stretching and strengthening their bodies. Dance from a chair, wheelchair or stand while focusing on whole body motions using music and imagery to inspire movement.

Parkinson’s Support Group

Second Wednesday of every month

Our Parkinson’s Support Group offers education, support and exercise for adults with Parkinson’s and their caregivers. Learn about additional Parkinson’s patient resources and the latest research. Each support group has a new guest speaker with different topics. Participate in our group exercise and then break off in caregiver and patient groups to discuss how to overcome challenges or ideas how to help each other.

Pedal for Parkinson’s

Lake Forest Health & Fitness Center's Pedal for Parkinson's is designed for adults with Parkinson's disease who wish to participate in low- to moderate-intensity exercise.

Recent studies show that stationary bicycle pedaling therapy at a high, steady cadence can significantly reduce the symptoms of Parkinson's disease and improve motor function. Our program combines rhythmic spinning with support and oversight from our Medical Fitness Specialists.

Pilates for Parkinson’s

Pilates for Parkinson's helps adults with Parkinson’s of all abilities gain muscle and joint dexterity with breath, flow and gentle movements. For best results, we recommend participants are barefoot for the class while working off a chair or on a mat.

Sit & Be Fit with Parkinson’s

Sit & Be Fit with Parkinson’s is designed to help adults with Parkinson’s focus on moving safely while seated with bands and light weights to increase strength and range of motion.

Strength & Balance for Parkinson’s

Strength & Balance for Parkinson’s will help you to a more balanced body! Improve all the core muscles that help with coordination and posture by using a variety of equipment, such as light weights and bands, to increase strength and range of motion.

TRX for Parkinson’s

With Yoga for Parkinson's, participants will practice gentle movements accompanied by proper breathing to achieve increased mobility, flexibility, strength and well-being.
